Thank you!

Wow. More than 400 people came out to support our work last night. We're still finalizing the numbers, but we raised tens of thousands of dollars to finance our programs for the next year! Thank you! Read more after the jump.

Pictured above, from left to right: Congressman Eliot Engel, our director John Phillips, State Senator Frank Padavan, Jivamukti Yoga School Managing Director Carlos Menjivar, Council Member Jimmy Vacca and Rue McClanahan. Photo by the talented Diane Cohen who donated her services for the entire evening. Keep reading for more pictures!

On November 10, 2007, approximately 400 people showed their support of the League of Humane Voters of NYC’s work to abolish the suffering of animals by being our guests at our 6th Anniversary Celebration. LOHV-NYC extends our warmest appreciation to all our supporters, volunteers and anniversary party attendees. Without you, LOHV-NYC could not continue in its role as a political arm for animals in the NYC and NY legislature, and we would not be able to continue to grow, as we aim to do, to extend LOHV-NYC’s mission to mobilize public concern for animals through the political process to larger goals and wider geographical landscapes.

While our appreciation to all of you for the success of the anniversary gala is boundless, we would like to bring special attention to the specific donations of certain noteworthy individuals and businesses below.

Gala Accommodations

The Jivamukti Yoga Center graciously hosted LOHV-NYC’s anniversary bash. The Center is a lovely, serene and inspirational space. We hope all our guests enjoyed the Center’s environment, its hospitality and vitality, as much as we do. A tremendous thanks goes to Carlos Menjivar, the Center’s Managing Director, who massively assisted LOHV-NYC with the organization and operation of the event, and to the Center’s staff members who worked alongside us.

For newcomers to the Jivamukti Yoga School, the Jivamukti method is a style of Yoga created by the School’s owners David Life and Sharon Gannon in 1984. It is a vigorously physical and intellectually stimulating practice leading to spiritual awareness. Treat yourself and learn more – www. jivamuktiyoga.com

Gala Volunteers

Each of the following individuals devoted their time, energy and enthusiasm to the gala in so many ways – from everything you saw at the party to all those many details behind the scenes. They created the legislator awards, did food and beverage pick-ups and service, they organized, they cooked, they cleaned, they shopped, they decorated, they worked, worked, worked, and they did it all in the spirit of teamwork and humanity. They are:

Andrew Morgante - Lewis Goldstein
Daniel Packer - Steve Serota
Chris Ward - Kim Downes
Josh Mahler - Jeff Scott
Bernardo Issel - Moni Woweries
Cynthia Kaplan - Ariela
Michael Judd - Rachel Zuckerman
Daniel Elstein - Lisa Virgona
