The League of Humane Voters of New York City (LOHV-NYC) and Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers (HEART, www.teachhumane.org) are working together to increase compliance with New York State's decades-old humane education law. Although the law is one of the strongest in the country, few educators know of its existence. With your help, we can change this -- we can teach a whole new generation of children what it means to be kind to animals.A resolution has been introduced in the New York City Council which calls on the NYC Department of Education to issue a memo to all city public schools alerting them of the existence of the humane education mandate and requiring principals to direct their teachers to act in accordance with the requirement. The resolution currently has 30 sponsors, including the Chairman of the Council's Education Committee, Robert Jackson.
Please help! Contact City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and politely urge her to co-sponsor and pass Resolution 497 as soon as possible. The Speakers contact info follows.
