Pedicabs, ride on! In response to pleas from the pedicab industry, LOHV-NYC, Transportation Alternatives and others, Mayor Bloomberg announced today that he will veto Intro. 331-A. Bloomberg said:
"I do agree we should have rules on basic safety features and I believe we should respect them because they're operating on our city streets ... But the part I can't go along with is a cap on the number because if the public wants more pedicabs why shouldn't the public be allowed to have more pedicabs?Thanks to Bloomberg for his environmental leadership and support of pedicabs! Speaker Quinn pushed through this disastrous bill through the City Council last month by a vote of 38-7. LOHV-NYC will continue to meet with members, urging them to oppose efforts to destroy this green and humane industry. In the news: NY1, NewsdayAnd if the public doesn't want them, then nobody's going to drive them because they can't make a living. So let the free marketplace decide. And people who say well the streets are already too congested already , yeah, the streets are too congested, and if you have pedicabs maybe you can't have something else, but that's for the public to decide.
