Education Chair signs on to humane ed. resolution

Great news! Council Member Robert Jackson (D-Manhattan), right, Chair of the City Council Education Committee, is now a co-sponsor of the HEART/LOHV-NYC humane education resolution (Reso. 497)! Jackson's support for this resolution will prove tremendously helpful in getting it passed.

Reso. 497 calls on the Department of Education to issue a memorandum to all NYC public schools to help increase compliance with New York State's humane education law. If passed, Reso. 497 -- along with full implementation of the humane education mandate -- will help to cultivate a whole new generation of humane and civic-minded citizens.

What You Can Do:

1. Contact Council Member Jackson to thank him for his support of Reso. 497. Urge him to hold a hearing on Reso. 497 as soon as possible so that schools can begin to incorporate the humane care and treatment of animals into their curriculum.

2. Contact Speaker Christine Quinn and urge her to schedule Reso. 497 for a hearing. Remind her that the resolution now has the support of a majority of the members, including the Chair of the Education Committee.

Fax: (212) 788-7207
Address:
