"WHEN Christine C. Quinn scored the prestigious position of City Council speaker, New York's animal lovers were overjoyed. Here was a pet-loving leader who would make New York's underdogs a top priority. She even included Andy and Sadie, her two adopted mutts, in her bio.... Yet to the surprise of many, Quinn has not supported the [pets in housing] bill, and it remains in legislative limbo. (She also did not return calls seeking comment.) 'We are disappointed, as the fate of this bill depends on the speaker,' says John Phillips of the League of Humane Voters of New York City (humanenyc.org). 'At stake is the happiness of so many elderly New Yorkers, and the lives of homeless animals in shelters waiting to provide them companionship.'" -- From Julia Szabo's pet column in the Sunday, November 5th edition of the New York Post.
Julia's article goes on to mention LOHV-NYC's City Council Humane Scorecard (Speaker Quinn was one of only three members to get a 0 in the 2004-2005 session). Read the entire article online here.
