Election Day is Tuesday!

This Tuesday's election is not important only if we want to see change in Washington. It's also crucial if we want to see animal protection bills become law here in New York. LOHV-NYC is endorsing 11 candidates and we need you to make sure they win!

One of the most important races for animals this Tuesday is in the 11th Senate District in Queens. In that race, LOHV-NYC is endorsing long-time animal advocate Frank Padavan for re-election. Over the years, Senator Padavan has sponsored laws that ended medical experimentation on animals requisitioned from shelters and put an end to shelter animal deaths by decompression. Just this year, he had signed into law a bill which allows courts to include companion animals under court orders of protection. A champion for all animals, Padavan has sponsored legislation to protect companion animals, farmed animals, free-living animals, fur-bearing animals and lab animals. He's the primary sponsor of bills to ban canned shoots, end the force-feeding of ducks for foie gras and outlaw the genital/anal electrocution of fur-bearing animals -- just to name a few. Let's send Senator Padavan back to Albany and then celebrate with him at our fifth anniversary on November 15th!

Two other races humane voters should be paying attention to on Tuesday: Assemblyman Jonathan Bing in the 73rd Assembly District (Manhattan) and State Senator Jeff Klein in the 34th Senate District (The Bronx). Both are facing serious challenges and humane voters must show up in numbers. For more information and for a list of our endorsements, click here to view our voter guide. Election results will be posted here on Wednesday.
