Re-elect Assemblyman Jonathan Bing!

Since his election to the New York State Assembly in 2002, Jonathan Bing (at right with John Phillips, LOHV-NYC's Executive Director, after a vegan lunch at Candle Cafe) has proven himself to be a tremendous ally to animals. As a member of the Assembly, Jonathan has protected tenants and their companion animals from eviction and supported legislation to:

  • Make cruelty to free-living animals felony
  • Increase eligibility for low-cost spay and neuter services
  • Outlaw so-called "canned shoots," where fenced-in animals are "hunted" for trophies. Jonathan has made the enactment of a statewide ban on canned shoots one of his animal protection priorities for 2007, should he be re-elected.
  • Allow local counties and municipalities to ban the trapping of animals.
  • Ban the anal and genital electrocution of animals. Animals raised for their fur are commonly killed in this particularly cruel manner.
  • Outlaw the production of foie gras. Foie gras, French for "fatty liver," is produced by force-feeding ducks and geese until their livers swell to 10 times their original size.
Now Jonathan needs our help! He represents an area which was once a great Republican stronghold -- the Upper East Side, East Midtown, Sutton Place, and Turtle Bay -- and his re-election will depend on a strong grassroots campaign. That's where we come in. Please volunteer! Call Bing's office at (212) 628-2464 or email jake@bing2006.com for more information. Thanks!
